And so…

it begins.

Concerned and caring, help the helpless but always remain ultimately selfish

Line from “Get the Balance Right” which is something I really need to learn to do. Spending more time swimming than running and today I felt that. 3.37 miles (9m 27s /mile) and it wasn’t easy.

By nature, I’m someone that indulges in the things I like to excess. And lately that indulgence has been swimming. It’s so great to step away from my office for an hour and just swim in the middle of the day. But I need to get back to running.

May 1st starts a training for a half-marathon and I need to commit myself to that. Let’s see what happens.

Hi

Been swimming. The idea of swim during lunch and run during dinner isn’t working. At the end of work, I’m too beat to go running. I think I’ll have to think of something else.

My teeth are distracting me from a song title

Dentist yesterday. Loathe them. But the receptionist was hot.

Anyway, whenever I go for a cleaning, one tooth on the lower jaw becomes like really sharp. Maybe not sharp but it becomes something that I keep rubbing my tongue over. It’s like my tooth is out of whack and I can feel the side which I don’t normally do. So I’ll be doing this for the next few days and it’s really distracting.

Ah man…. such a creature of habit.

Afternoon swim today (loving it minus the fact that at usually it’s 4 kids on one side of the pool taking lessons that are like 5 or 6 and then all the others are the elderly with no one my age in sight) and then a light run tonight before coming home. 2.21 miles with a pace of 8m 59s /mile. Started to get a slight pain in my shine at which point I just stopped, walked it off then stretched. The minute I got home, I iced up my legs. I’m taking no chances. Better a day of 2 miles than 2 weeks of no miles.

Be all and you’ll be the end all

Productive weekends are good for the soul. Currently baking some wheat bread, cleaned up the apartment, got through some chapters in the Coldfusion tutorial, did my taxes (and verified that I despise math), planned my meals for the week, went grocery shopping and noticed that most of what I purchased was fresh fruits and veggies.

And to top it off, 3.61 miles with a pace of 9m 35s /mile. Admittedly I’m a bit fearful over these last two runs. It’s kind of like being in a car accident and after not driving for a bit, you get back behind the wheel and you’re a bit antsy. But that does usually go away and I’m hoping that my reaction to this goes away soon. I’m fearful of hurting myself the way I had at the end of March. The competitive side of me (it can be said that I’m very competitive to a certain degree) wants to just go all out so I can catch up in the April challenge and then the other side of me screams in my head “are you nucking futs?”

So, for the rest of April, the runs will be easy runs and it’ll be combined with the afternoon swims. In May, I’ll start training the training regiment for a half marathon. And I’ll have to make sure I stretch after every run, not just here and there.
